Caramel Apple Cake Recipe

Ingredients : 
- 1 box (16.25 oz) white cake mix with pudding in the mix
- Water, vegetable oil and egg whites called for on cake mix box
- 1 cup caramel topping
- 2 small red apples
- 2 tablespoons orange juice
- ¼ cup chopped nuts, if desired
- 1 container (16 oz) chocolate creamy ready-to-spread frosting

Preparation Method :
1) Heat oven to 350°F (325°F for dark or nonstick pan). Make and bake cake as directed on box for 13x9-inch pan, using water, oil and egg whites. Cool 15 minutes.

2) With end of wooden spoon handle, poke holes halfway into cake every 2 inches; evenly pour ¾ cup of the caramel topping over holes. Cool completely in pan on cooling rack, about 1 hour.

3) Cut each apple into 6 wedges. Dip cut edges into orange juice to prevent browning; slightly pat dry. Dip uncut edges into remaining ¼ cup caramel topping; roll in nuts. Cover; refrigerate until serving time.

4) Frost cake with chocolate frosting. Just before serving, place an apple wedge on each piece of cake. Store loosely covered.

* Sweet Success Use small crab apples with stems, if they’re available, for a super-cute garnish instead of the apple wedges. There’s no need for the orange juice, and everyone gets an apple!
